Business Valuation

Business Valuations

Know what your business is worth, before the number has to hold up

Knowing what your business is worth underpins most significant financial decisions: preparing for a sale, securing investment, settling a shareholder agreement, working through a legal or family law dispute, or planning for growth.

An independent valuation gives you a clear, evidence-based view of that value. Independent means no interest in the answer, which is what lets the figure stand up when a buyer, an investor, a regulator or a court reads it.

There are three levels of engagement. Which one suits you depends on what the number has to do, and the budget behind it.

Option 1: Pre-valuation assessment

A clear starting point, before you decide whether a full valuation is needed.

This suits owners weighing up their options: considering a sale, thinking about investment, or wanting a general sense of where value sits. It's a high-level, cost-effective read on the financial position.

Includes:

  • an indicative market value range, based on industry benchmarks and financial performance

  • a basic review of revenue, profitability and growth potential

  • guidance on improving value before undertaking a full valuation

Consider it if you're:

  • exploring an exit but not yet ready to commit

  • benchmarking the business against comparable ones

  • planning for growth and wanting to understand your value drivers

Option 2: Limited scope valuation

A detailed but streamlined valuation, for owners who need more than an estimate without a full report.

It's often used for internal planning, negotiations, or a preliminary assessment before a major decision, and for a business restructure where a valuation is needed for tax or financial reporting.

Includes:

  • a detailed financial review, covering historical performance and key metrics

  • market positioning analysis, including industry trends and business risks

  • valuation modelling using recognised methods

  • a summary report setting out the estimated market value and the main factors behind it

Consider it if you're:

  • preparing for negotiations with buyers or investors

  • seeking investment or funding and need a structured valuation

  • planning a shareholder agreement or buyout that requires an independent figure

  • undertaking a restructure and need a valuation for tax and financial reporting

Option 3: Full valuation

A comprehensive, evidence-backed valuation, prepared to a standard that holds up under scrutiny.

This is the most thorough assessment, supported by financial modelling, industry research and recognised valuation methodology. It's the option for situations where the figure will be tested by someone with a reason to challenge it.

Includes:

  • comprehensive financial analysis, covering revenue, profitability, cash flow and debt

  • multiple valuation methodologies, across income, asset and market approaches

  • risk assessment, including economic and industry-specific factors

  • a full valuation report, suitable for use in legal, and some tax and financial matters

  • a one-on-one consultation to talk through the findings and what they mean

Consider it if you're:

  • selling and need a defensible valuation for negotiations

  • involved in a legal dispute, shareholder matter, or tax planning

  • preparing for a merger, acquisition or financial restructure
